During the 2006-2007 academic year, MHM provided full-day, year-round early childhood care and education for 835 children from 646 families:
51% Hispanic 3% Asian
28% Black 2% Native American 15% Anglo
51% Male and 49% Female
The families served by MHM are struggling to raise their children on poverty-level wages. This past year:
• 74% of children served were living in single parent households
• 82% of children served were living at or below the federal poverty level ($20,000 annual income for a family of 4)
• 90% of children served were living at or below 185% of the federal poverty level.
The families of these children pay tuition based on a sliding scale and receive additional support from state and federal programs, as well as philanthropic contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations.
An additional 2,502 child visits were logged in MHM’s Court Child Care drop-in center and 2,532 child visits were received at MHM’s Good Beginnings drop-in center for families doing business with the Denver Department of Human Services.
