Play and Learn

“Thank you so much for giving my two beautiful girls and me the opportunity to be in the MHEL program. Because of you I have the opportunity to send my children to a clean and safe learning environment. Words can’t express my gratitude.”

Play and Learn Groups

Play and Learn Groups are provided for parents, Family, Friend and Neighbor care providers and children in high-need neighborhoods in Denver with a focus on school readiness. The target population is low income families of children birth to age 3 who are not enrolled in formal early childhood education programs.

Adult-child play sessions are held twice a week with monthly parent meetings addressing topics in child development, health and safety, community services and other areas of interest to participants. Play and Learn programming focuses on the protective factors in the Strengthening Families framework: parental resilience, social connections, knowledge of parenting and child development, concrete support in times of need, and children’s social/emotional competence In addition to reducing social isolation, the groups introduce parents/caregivers to the benefits of high quality preschool programs and how to identify and access these programs.
